Angklung Charity Concert Held Successfully
In addition to fundraising purposes, the event was part of our endeavor to introduce a diverse Indonesian culture to the public. Angklung is an Indonesian traditional musical instrument which is made out of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The instrument was recently included by UNESCO in the list of intangible cultural heritage.
The concert attracted many local and international students, staff members, as well as residents of Eindhoven. A total of eight local and international songs were performed by the angklung team, which consisted of students from TU/e and Fontys Hogescholen. Workshop of angklung was also given in order to provide a chance to audiences to learn how to play the instrument. Special performances of kacapi suling and rampak kandang by our guests from UK and Germany joined this charity event, which is dedicated to the victims of floods and landslides in Wasior, West Papua, earthquake and tsunami in Mentawai Islands, and Mount Merapi eruptions in Jogjakarta.
These natural disasters that struck Indonesia have affected many lives, with more than a thousand people have died and thousands more have lived in temporary shelters.
As a result of the concert, a total of 1126.52 euros or about 13.5 million rupiahs was raised, which has been sent to the Indonesian Red Cross Society.
